DEVELOPMENT AND PERFORMANCE EVALUATION OF TRIPLE-MOUTH CHILL
Almost in every house in rural areas of Bangladesh earthen Chula is used for cooking purpose. Mostly single-mouth and double-mouth Chula is used. Triple-mouth Chula may also be used in this purpose. The Heat Use Efficiency (HUE) of these Chula is needed to increase by proper design, for better utilization of firewood to reduce the cost of cooking. The effect of dimensions such as hearth height and diameter of the traditional single- mouth, double-mouth, and triple-mouth type Chula on HUE were tested. The test result indicated that individual and combined effect of the parameters were highly significant. The maximum heat use efficiency was found for dimension combination of hearth height 23 cm and hearth diameter 18 cm in case of single-mouth Chula, hearth height 25.5 cm and hearth diameter 20cm in case of double-mouth and triple-mouth types of Chula. The highest heat use efficiency of single-mouth, double-mouth, lineal triple-mouth and triangular triple-mouth Chula were found to be 23.03%, 24.35%, 34.59% and 37.71% respectively. Thus the triple-mouth Chula was found to be the most effective in utilizing fuel and can save huge amount of time and money if people use this type of Chula.
