EVALUATION OF JAPANESE KALMI (Ipomea aqu atica) IN OPEN FIELD AND FLOATING CONDITION

An experiment was conducted in the field of Horticulture farm and in the pond of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka-1207 during the period mid June 2018- August 2018to evaluate the Japanese kalmi in both open field and floating condition. This study was carried out to examine different characters like height, germination period, leaf number, chlorophyll content and yield of kalmi. Production of kalmi was slightly higher(21.73 t/ha.) in floating conditions than the open field(20.71t/ha.). This study represent the possibility to overcome challenges and limitations, floating garden and leafy vegetables like kalmi was found to be useful for improving nutritional security,household income and land use capacity of extreme poor or landless people in the post disaster situations. Potentials of floating garden to adapt to changing climate as well as Japanese kalmi were highlighted.
