MORINGA LEAF EXTRACT ENHANCES GROWTH PROMOTION AND YIELD IN THE SUSTAINABLE CULTIVATION OF CHILI (Capsicum annum L.)

Organic farming using moringa leaf extract is growing in demand day by day because of its growth-promoting behavior. The study was conducted at Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka, Bangladesh, during the period from December 2021 to May 2022 to evaluate the effect of moringa leaf extract on the growth and yield of Capsicum annum L. The experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) using chili (BARI Morich-2) comprised of six treatments with seven replications. Treatments were T0: 0 ml (control), T1: 15 ml, T2: 30 ml, T3: 45 ml, T4: 60 ml, T5: 75 ml moringa leaf extract. The result indicated that T5 treatment showed the highest results on plant height (84.72 cm), leaf number (191.78), number of branches (14.0), stem diameter (2.12 cm), days of first flowering (51.42 days), number of fruits (194.4), length of fruits (11.17), weight of fruits (311.32 gm). The lowest results are found in the T0 treatment for the growth and yield of chili in all the parameters. With the increased dose of moringa leaf extract, plant growth and yield also increased gradually.
