UTILIZATION OF GHER BOUNDARY FOR CROPPING

The study was conducted at Assasuni upazila of Satkhira district during the period from January to March 2017 in determining the status of utilization of gher boundary for cropping and to make a relationship between characteristics of the respondents and gher cropping. Data were collected through pre-tested structured interview schedule from 112 sample farmers out of 800 gher farmers from selected five villages of Baradal union in Assasuni upazila. The overall extent of utilization of gher boundary with mean of 55.63 and that’s standard deviation of 26.39. Results revealed that 46.1% (majority) had high gher boundary utilization, while 19.7% had medium, 18.8% had low and rest of 13.4% had no utilization. Significant positive correlation (r) was found among communication exposure, innovativeness and financial help. Beside this, significant negative correlation was found in training experience and annual income with their utilization of gher boundary for cropping. On the other hand, age, education, gher cultivation experience, farm size, organizational participation, agricultural knowledge, and gher boundary size had non-significant correlation with their utilization of gher boundary for cropping.
