INDIVIDUAL DIFFERENCE IN PERCEIVING OCCUPATIONAL STRESS: A STUDY ON GARMENTS WORKERS WORKING IN COMILLA EPZ

Stress
in organizations has been identified as an increasingly important concern in
both organizational research and practice. It has become an issue of modern
manager’s headache to address the level of stress in the workplace. An
initiative is required to have a clear understanding about individual difference
as it distinguish the level of occupational stress individual perceive. The
study will afford a scope of understanding about the individual difference in
perceiving such stress. The study has been carried out with an objective to
measure the difference in observing occupational stress among different
categories of employees working in Garments industries located in Comilla EPZ.
. The study targeted the lower level workers of garment factories in the stated
zone and used random sampling methods. Both primary and secondary sources has
been used for collecting information. From a field survey primary data has been
collected directly asking the respondents (workers) using a well-structured
questionnaire. A five point Likert scale is used to valuing the respondents’
expressions in a numeric way. However, average level of stress based on six
criteria, sub grouped in 20 segments is measured. It is found that significant
variation exist in stress perceiving level of the workers on the basis of six
selected criteria. Managers are recommended to understand the personal and
organizational related factors to address the employee’s stress level and push
them to proper maintenance rather using the so called theoretical control
mechanism.
