An experiment was carried out in the main farm of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka, during the period from 24 July to 28 November 2011 to study the effect of sulphur and boron on growth and yield of aman rice. The soil of the experimental field was silt loam in texture belonging to the agro-ecological zone of the Madhupur Tract (AEZ-28). A high yielding variety of rice cv. BRRI dhan30 was taken as the test crop. There were 16 treatments consisting of sulfur and boron including control. Sulfur was used as gypsum (CaSO4.2 H2O) and boron as borax (Na2B4O7.10 H2O). Various doses of Sulfur were S0 = Control, S1 = 8 kg S ha-1 , S2 = 12 kg S ha-1, S3 = 16 kg S ha-1 and Boron doses were B0 = Control, B1 = 1 kg B ha-1, B2 = 1.5 kg B ha-1, B3 = 2 kg B ha-1. The combined application of S and B significantly increased the number of effective tillers hill-1, panicle length, grain and straw yields of rice. The highest number of effective tillers hill-1, the highest panicle length and the highest grain and straw yields were found in 12 kg S + 1 kg B ha-1 treatment. The interaction effect of sulphur and boron was also found to be significant in respect to boron content in rice grain and straw. B content in rice grain and straw ranged from 10.16 to 18.76 µg g-1 and 10.84 to 17.93 µg g-1 respectively due to interaction effect of sulphur and boron. N,P,K and S contents were also found to vary significantly due to interaction effect of sulphur and boron.
