INTEGRATION OF DIFFERENT IPM COMPONENTS TO DEVELOP SUITABLE PACKAGE(S) FOR SUPPRESSING SUGARCANE STEM BORER

An
experiment was undertaken to evaluate the effectiveness of some IPM components
to develop effective package(s) for suppressing stem borer infesting sugarcane.
The eight components of IPM packages singly or in combinations were used for
this purpose. In November, the highest 82.46% efficiency was obtained in the
package 8 and next close to package 7 (79.07%). The highest yield of
72.33 t ha-1 followed by package 7 (67.63 t ha-1). The
minimum loss in weight was obtained from package 8 (1.91%) followed by package
7 (3.91%). The lowest sugar recovery loss was found in package 8 (0.93%)
followed by package 7 (3.70%) and package 6 (5.56%). The highest (2.09) BCR was
obtained from package 8. The second highest (1.97) BCR was obtained from
package 7 followed by package 6 (1.95). The lowest (1.38) BCR was found in
untreated control plot. The percent infestation, yield potential, loss in
weight, loss in sugar recovery and BCR, the package 8 was judged as
the most effective, profitable and recommendable to fit the IPM component for
managing of sugarcane stem borer.
