ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE: FOR MORE PROFITABLE, EFFICIENT, ENVIRONMENT-FRIENDLY AND SAFER AGRICULTURE IN BANGLADESH

The field of agriculture, as a consequence
of population surges and rapid climate change along with other natural and
man-made factors, now faces several challenges to maintain productivity and
sustainability. These challenges can effectively be overcome by adopting advanced
technologies such as artificial intelligence, big data, machine learning,
Internet of things (IoT), etc. The global agriculture sector has already begun
applying artificial intelligence to tackle production-related problems owing to
its higher accuracy rate and greater problem-solving capacity in real-time at a
much greater speed than traditional methods. Bangladesh, despite being fairly
new to this concept is slowly catching up to the vast potential that AI
possesses in developing our agricultural sector. Implementation of proper
guidelines for using AI techniques and making them accessible, affordable, and
easily understandable, can increase their adaptability among the farmers. Furthermore,
with a comprehensive collaboration between government and non-government and
private organizations, AI-based solutions can be transmitted among the farmers,
which will transform the agriculture sector of Bangladesh. Subsequently, assisting
our country in fighting the challenges that lie in the path of ensuring maximal
productivity and environmental safety.
