BIOACTIVE NATURAL COMPOUNDS AS ELICITORS OF PLANT DEFENSE AGAINST BACTERIAL PATHOGENS

Traditional plant disease management measures
are losing efficacy, and pesticide resistance in pathogens is increasing,
posing a serious risk to global food security. The availability of bioactive
natural compounds (BNCs) in our ecosystem opens up new possibilities for
sustainable crop protection and organic agriculture. In crop disease
management, the use of biologically active substances obtained from nature
efficiently protects plants from infections and induces improved immunity
against pathogenic strains. This review focuses on the properties and mechanism
of some bioactive compounds in inducing host defense as well as their mode of
action against pathogen. This review also seeks to elucidate the induced
host-defense mechanism and the effectiveness of BNCs in eliciting defensive
responses in plants against plant pathogenic bacteria.
