CAUSES OF ABSENTEEISM IN HIGHER EDUCATION CLASSROOM: EXPERIENCE ON GOVERNMENT COLLEGE IN BANGLADESH

This study aims to explore the cause and effect of absenteeism in higher education in Bangladesh during the period of 1^st January, 2020 to 31^st July, 2020. The study used both qualitative and quantitative research design while qualitative data intend to explore the causes of absenteeism and quantitative data explore the effect of absenteeism on students’ performance. The population are the undergraduate students and the sample size is 210 including boys and girls. The study identified non-collegiate and collegiate students on basis of class attendance register following judgmental sampling. The primary data have been collected by survey questionnaire. The poor financial condition, weak transportation system, religious obligations are the main reason of absenteeism. The absenteeism has significant negative effect on students’ overall results.
