From January to April 2024, a survey was conducted across 171 buck centers in 49 districts of Bangladesh to document buck population distribution and the use of exotic goat breeds. A structured questionnaire was used to collect data on breed types and farmer preferences, while in-depth interviews were conducted with 13 buck center owners. Results revealed that the highest concentration of Black Bengal bucks was in Chittagong, whereas Sirohi, Tutapuri and Jamunapari bucks were prevalent in Rajshahi. Other exotic breeds, including Beetal and Boer, were also reported in many buck centers in the country. Farmers preferred larger buck breeds due to perceived benefits in offspring size and growth rate. Buck center owners selected breeds based on local demand, enabling more profitable breeding services. The study concludes that buck centers play a vital role in disseminating exotic goat genetics across Bangladesh. Further research involving doe owners is recommended to design a balanced breeding policy that conserves native breeds while improving productivity through selective integration of exotic genetics.
