EVALUATION OF PURPLE FLESH SWEET POTATO GERMPLASM IN BANGLADESH CONDITION

The field trial was accomplished at the
horticultural farm, Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka, Bangladesh
during October 2016 to march 2019 to evaluate the new purple flesh sweet potato
germplasm on the basis of growth and yield performances. Purple flesh sweet potato
vine was used in this study for three years field trial following out
Randomized Complete Block Design. Leaf color is green when matured with light
green young leaves, skin and flesh purple in color in case of visual observation.
Data on growth and yield related parameters were taken. The skin and flesh
color of sweet potato germplasm was accurate measured and exposed through L*
(lightness), a* and b* (two Cartesian
coordinates) including C* and hab (Chroma & Hue angle) based on
CIELab scale with standard observer 100 and standard illumination D65 using precision
colorimeter IWAVE WF32. On the basis of growth performances across years,
average vine length (95.5, 92.7, 97.3 cm) was observed and on the basis of
yield performances, the average tuberous root yield per hectare was recorded
(48.1, 48.2 and 50.4 t) respectively during 2016-17 to 2018-19 cropping season.
