GEOGRAPHICAL INDICATIONS PROTECTION IN BANGLADESH: AN OVERVIEW

A geographical indication (GI) is a sign used on goods that have a specific geographical origin and possess qualities or a reputation due to that place of origin. Most commonly, a geographical indication consists of the name of the place of origin of the goods.  The article has focused on the concept of geographical indication as an intellectual property, existing legal instruments regarding protection of geographical indication, current situation in Bangladesh, prevailing glitches concerning GI. Secondary data has been used during the course of the research. Few challenges have been identified regarding GI in Bangladesh and finally some recommendations have been provided to overcome those challenges.
