INFLUENCE OF DIFFERENT RE-TRANSPLANTING DATES AND SEEDLING NUMBERS PER HILL ON YIELD OF LATE AMAN RICE (cv. Binasail)

An experiment was conducted at the experimental field of the farm of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University during the period from August to December 2011 to study the influence of different seedling number hill-1 on the yield of re-transplanted Aman rice (Binasail) using RCBD (Randomized Completely Block Design) with three replications. During the experiment, three different number of seedling hill-1 (3 seedlings hill-1, 4 seedlings hill-1 and 5 seedlings hill-1) and four transplanting and re-transplanting dates (transplanting at 16 September, re-transplanting on 23 September, re-transplanting on 30 September and re-transplanting on 7 October) were used as treatments. The highest number of total tillers hill-1, effective tillers hill-1, non-effective tillers hill-1, spikelet panicle-1, filled grains panicle-1, unfilled grains panicle-1, maximum 1000-grain weight and the longest panicle was found from 4 seedlings hill-1 treatment while plant height was highest in both 4 seedlings hill-1 and 5 seedlings hill-1. In case of planting dates, re-transplanting at 23 September showed highest results for most of the yield parameters while re-transplanting at 7 October gave the lowest. But non-effective tillers hill-1 and unfilled grains panicle-1 were highest in re-transplanting at 7 October and lowest in re-transplanting at 23 September and transplanting at 16 September. Due to the interaction effects of two factors, 4 seedlings hill-1 and re-transplanting at 23 September gave better results followed by 3 seedlings hill-1 and re-transplanting at 23 September and 3 seedlings hill-1 and transplanting at 16 September for most of the parameters while poorest performances were observed for 5 seedlings hill-1 treatment and re-transplanting at 7 October and 3 seedlings hill-1 and re-transplanting at 7 October.
