INFLUENCE OF POTASH LEVELS ON GROWTH AND YIELD OF SWEET POTATO GERMPLASM

A
field experiment was conducted to study the influence of potash levels on
growth and yield of sweet potato germplasm at Horticulture farm, Sher-e-Bangla
Agricultural University, Dhaka-1207, Bangladesh during October 2016 to April,
2017. Treatments consisted of seven different germplasm, viz., Local (L); Vietnam red (R); White (W); Yellow (Y); Orange
(0); Violet (V); Magenta (M) and four levels of potassium: (K0,120
kg ha-1; K1,140 kg ha-1; K2, 160 kg
ha-1 and K3, 180kg ha-1). Result revealed that
vegetative performance was better in Magenta germplasm (M) than the rest of the
germplasm, whereas Orange germplasm (O) showed the highest yield (47.2 t ha-1)
and was 16 % higher than local germplasm. For potassium application, K3
treatment influenced to increase the yield (11%) over control treatment.
Therefore, it can be concluded that the application of potassium had a positive
effect on yield of sweet potato.
