INTEGRATION OF URBAN DESIGN ELEMENTS TO ACHIEVE RESPONSIVENESS AND RESILIENCE IN THE CENTRAL BUSINESS DISTRICT

Central Business District (CBD) area is an important place for a city which is composed of variety of economic and business activities. The study had been conducted based on the field survey at Faridpur Municipality in Bangladesh during the period of July 2013. The study mainly looked into the implications of urban design elements to achieve a responsive and resilient city. This research selected four different types of survey methods to fulfill the purpose of the study. There were nine types of land uses explored in the study area where about 54% area of commercial purpose with the intensity index of 0.725 and 16.21 percent road use. However, the office and institutional area had the highest level of Floor Area Ratio (FAR) with 2.13 where commercial comprises only 1.15 in the CBD. The CBD of Faridpur Municipality comprises basically different types of commercial activities that give it an image of the city in a way of guiding some options for responsive and resilient city.
