NEXUS BETWEEN SOCIO-ECONOMIC FACTORS AND MOTHER HEALTH SEEKING BEHAVIOR TOWARDS THE CHILDREN: A STUDY CONDUCTED IN BANGLADESH

Infant and child mortality is one of the main problems of Bangladesh due to its poor socio-demographic conditions. Social and economic factors such as the mother’s education, father’s occupation, family economic situation have prevalent on infant and child mortality. The main object of this study was measure the relationship between manifold socio-economic variables and mother health related practices of children. So, descriptive research design is followed. Methodological triangulation also used for data collection. The study was conducted in January 2015 to May 2015 at Gulaghat, Babnorchok and Shikarpur of Beanibazar upozilla in Sylhet Bangladesh. To measure the different aspects of women health seeking behavior and child care, variables are analyzed through univariate, and bivarite analyses. The study showed that most of the mothers in this study had poor health related knowledge about child health care and these are correlated with mother’s age, years of schooling and income. Awareness of mothers regarding good health of their children exists but it can be further improved with basic health education, awareness and proper counseling by the health workers, media exposure.
