POTENTIAL IMPACT OF IRON NANOPARTICLES ON GROWTH PERFORMANCE OF PEA (Pisum sativum)

The
effect of magnetic ironoxide nanoparticles (IONPs) on the growth and yield of
Pea (Pisum sativum) was investigated
in the present study. Mature pea seeds were treated with 0.25, 0.50, 1.00 and
5.00 mM concentrated IONPs dispersions. The impact of IONPs on seed
germination, plant height, biomass, fruit and seed weight were studied
carefully and compared with control. Depending on magnetite particles
concentration and soaking time, variable outcome was observed in our
experiment. Interestingly, 1.00 mM IONPs showed significant positive impact in
all aspects. No significant change was observed in AMF and Rhizobium
colonization of Pea which proves the eco-friendly nature of our produced IONPs.
IONPs were prepared by coprecipitation of Fe+ and Fe3+ sulfate salts solution
(aq) with concentrated sodium hydroxide solution (aq). The particles were
surface functionalized with polyethylene glycol. Transmission electron
microscopy (TEM) was used for their structural characterization.
