RESPONSE OF GLADIOLOUS (GLADIOLUS GRANDIFLORUS L.) TO DIFFERENT LEVELS OF PHOSPHORUS

The study was conducted at the Horticulture Farm of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka, Bangladesh during the period from October 2010 to May 2011. The experiment consisted with four levels of phosphorus (P₀: control; P₁: 100 kg; P₂: 150 kg and P₃: 200 kg P₂O₅/ha). The experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications. The maximum number of florets per spike (14.5) was recorded from P₃, whereas the minimum number of florets per spike (11.9) was found from P₀. Highest number of spike (2,86,000/ha) and yield of corm (15.4 t/ha) was recorded from P₂ and both the parameters were lowest at P₀. So, 150 kg P₂O₅/ha may be recommended for the production of gladiolus.
