SCREENING OF RICE CULTIVARS FOR JHUM CULTIVATION IN THE HILL SLOPE OF RANGAMATI DISTRICT

The experiment was conducted to in the farmers’ field (hill slope) of Bodhipur, Manikchari under Rangamati Sadar upazila at Rangamati district in the 21 April, 2017 with the financial help of CRP Hill Agricultural Project (Component-III) by Krishi Gobeshona Foundation (KGF) and technical assistance of Regional Agricultural Research Station, BARI, Hathazari, Chittagong to select the appropriate rice varieties for jhum cultivation in Rangamati hill districtin randomized complete block design with three replications. Seven modern varieties e.g. BR21, BR26, BRRIdhan27, BRRI dhan42, BRRI dhan43, BRRIdhan48, BRRI dhan55 and three local cultivars, e.g., Cockrow, Sheredhan, Gelendhan were selected. Among the ten verities, highest grain yield, highest number of fertile tillers hill^-1, highest number of grain panicle^-1 and 1000 grain weight was obtained from Gelendhan. In respect of yield and other yield related parameter gelen cultivar is suitable for jhum cultivation in Rangamati hill district.
