STUDY ON MILK UREA NITROGEN OF LOCAL AND CROSSBRED COWS IN DIFFERENT REGION OF BANGLADESH

An experiment was conducted to study MUN of dairy cows in relation to breed and region of Bangladesh from August to November 2012. Sirajganj, Tangail and Jessore districts has been selected for study and 60 farmers having milking cows (20 cows of each district; 10 cows were local and 10 cows were crossbred) were selected randomly for sample collection and interview. Live weight of crossbred cow was 359.9 kg and local cow was 173.5 kg. Genetically crossbred cows are larger in size than local cows in Bangladesh. For Sirajganj, Tangail and Jessore districts it was found that DM intake (9.1, 9.5 and 9.2 kg/d respectively), CP intake (840, 650 and 810 g/d respectively), milk fat (4.3, 4.2 and 3.9% respectively), lactose of the milk (5.3, 5.3 and 4.8% respectively) and SNF (9.8, 9.7 and 9.3%). MUN of local cows in Sirajganj, Tangail and Jessore districts were 32.5, 31.0 and 32.7 mg/dl respectively whereas crossbred cows were 36.0, 36.7 and 31.2 mg/dl respectively.
