TOURISM: IT’S CONTRIBUTION ON GDP AND EMPLOYMENT IN BANGLADESH

As Bangladesh is a country of scenic beauty, longest beach, favorable climate and archeological and historical sites, there is a prospect of tourism industry which can contribute to the GDP and employment in Bangladesh. The objective of this study was to show how tourism industry was contributing to the GDP and employment and to suggest the tourism sector in Bangladesh for development. The research conducting period was 2004-2014. Numeric data used in the report were collected from different secondary sources like Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation, World Tourism Council, World Bank Databank etc. The findings were the direct contribution to GDP of the tourism sector had declined in recent years than previous years though Bangladesh started making progress, the contribution of it in total employment was around 4% and according to the WTTC, it may reach 4.3% by 2024. Bangladesh needs to improve the tourism sector for developing economy.
