USING STATUS OF LEARNERS’ CENTERED INSTRUCTIONS IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE CLASSROOM AT HIGHER SECONDARY LEVEL IN BANGLADESH

This
present study has been conducted in the purpose of tracing out the using status
of learners centered instruction approach in English language classroom at higher
secondary level in Bangladesh. The study was conducted from May to December
2019 in Matuail Hazi Abdul Latif Bhuiyan College, Demra, Dhaka-1262 and D. M
Degree College, Sheikhpara, Sailkupa, Jhenaidah, Bangladesh. Adopting a mixed
method research approach (Both quantitative and qualitative), 120 students and
eight teachers were selected randomly as respondents for collecting data using
questionnaire and face to face interview session both with the students and the
teachers. All the selected students and teachers were engaged in questionnaire
survey. Then, only 20 students and four teachers were engaged in interview for
collecting qualitative data. Scholars’
view, research papers, journals and articles regarding learners centered
instruction approach provided tentative ideas regarding the issue of this
present study. This study has revealed that the learners centered instruction
approaches werenot applied properly and regularly in English language classroom
at higher secondary level in Bangladesh though some challenges have been
addressed by the teachers in this regard.
